WOODHOUSE IS A WINNER!

Woodhouse Activity Centre in the Adelaide Hills has long been a favourite location for outdoor adventure lovers of all ages. Between Scout camps, school camps, conferences, school holiday programs and weddings in its beautiful heritage listed stone manor, Woodhouse now also hosts hundreds of families every week seeking both challenge and reward, adventure, fun and everlasting memories – not to mention some pretty fantastic photo ops!

It’s these memories and experiences together with a host of exiting new developments that earned Woodhouse the sought-after RAA Voters’ Choice Tourism Award (Accommodation) and the Silver award in the Adventure Tourism category at the 2019 South Australian Tourism Awards last week.

The past 12 months have seen a host of new installations, upgrades and renovations right across the magnificent 54  hectare property resulting in an award winning destination that whilst continuing to provide school, corporate and Scout groups with one of the most sought after locations in South Australia, has proven to be an increasingly popular option for families looking for something new and different for birthday parties, day trips or even a weekend escape with a choice of accommodation options in brick, wood or canvas on offer.

Developments at Woodhouse in the past year have included;

  • The famous Challenge Hill has had a face lift with new directional and safety signage and restoration of the entrance archway and 3 thrilling new obstacles added - ‘Double zip-line’, ‘Rat Trap’ and ‘Wade & Climb’ taking the total number of challenges on which you’ll crawl, climb, swing  and slide to more than thirty.
  • Three brand new and exciting stand-alone activities have been installed The Labyrinth split level maze, Adelaide’s only Tube Slides and a new challenging Bouldering Wall.
  • On the accommodation front, all three original brick buildings have received upgrades including kitchens, fresh paint, verandas  and even a sensory edible garden.  These facilities are perfect for large groups and the heritage-listed two-storey mansion with beautiful gardens is in hot demand for weddings.
  • Most exciting for families are the upgrades to the three timber chalets.  These rustic self-contained cabins set among the magnificent bush-like surrounds are perfect escape from the ‘screens’ and with new flooring, paint and furniture are proving exceptionally popular.
  • For a real outdoor experience, Woodhouse has upgraded its basecamp sites for those who want to camp either in their own or supplied tents. They’ll even put it up for you – but that does take away some of the fun!

On site BBQ’s in the large undercover activity sheds are perfect for birthday parties, lunch or to relax around with a drink at the end of a big day to celebrate conquering challenge hill, testing your skills at the 9 hole disc golf course (like regular golf but with a frisbee), experiencing the thrill of flying down the tube slide, weaving your way through the labyrinth, trying your hand at any of the 7 orienteering course or just heading out for a hike and perhaps saying hi to our koalas and kangaroos along the way.

If you’ve not been to Woodhouse in a while – or have never been, there’s no better time to head 15 minutes up the freeway, get outdoors, live a little and find out exactly why they’ve just won these prestigious awards.
